I saw this on ebay while waiting for my turn to get a haircut at Sports Clips! 399.00 for both the Highway Wrecker Set 3213 & Motor City Electric Trucking 3209. Little did I know someone else was checking out at the same time, trying to buy it. What's interesting is the auction stating it was missing a wall for the Shell Wrecker Garage, but it was not! It was just missing the wrecker, but that disabled firebird was there! I bought two different Highway Wreckers sets withing 11 days!

As fate has it, someone listed not one, but two shell road service signs and the phone booth (no track) this week on ebay. Apparently, they got separated from the Highway Wrecker Sets during the past 39 years.

Now I just need to find one of the Motor City yellow pennzoil barrels and a shell wrecker! I even have the sticker for the barrel. It came with three and the sticker is still there for the 4th one! It came with 4 or 5, correct?

The 3209 came with 5 barrels, they are the same as the ones in the 3204 Army Transport set and the 3217 G.I. Joe High Adventure set.

I got that 3302 I posted about, and as I suspected it was a pile of junk. I had to replace everything in it. Literally everything. I popped a sealed 3430, 3440, had a new opened 3215, a sealed 3010, a set of sealed signs, and 4 sealed curve cards, as one point came off when I opened the package. I used the turn outs from the accessories and added another. And both trucks were damaged. The 3203 won’t even attach to the chassis because they bent the side of the body so bad.

So my $100 offer was actually about $70 too much. I used in excess of $250 in sealed parts and had a couple extra trucks and a P.I.E. trailer laying around.

But, with all that said I have a super, super, SUPER rare set 100% complete, and what good was all the sealed stuff sitting around for anyway…

The Goodyear 3440 had 10 tires with it as well. It’s funny that Tyco pictures the 3436 on the box as being blue, when it’s the same brown as the regular 3436. There is a Tyco train one that had orange legs. I have one with those legs and used the glow in the dark barrels with it just for something different.


A 3410 has 5 pipes, a 3415/3414/3470 has 3 logs or 7 boulders, all are interchangeable and just vary by the load pushed, although Tyco shows the 3415 being on the trucks left and the 3414/3470 on the trucks right. A 3416 has 3 logs, a 3450/3460 will have 3 crates in light tan, as does the 3204, 3206, 3208/3208-1/3208-2, and any other set with a 3450/3460. And the 3217 has 3 darker tan/brown crates. The 3211 has 5 white drums like the 3436 uses, the 3209/3217 has the yellow drums. (Yes the 3217 has both drums and crates even though the only accessory is the 3475). A 3228/3344 has 3 overhead lights, while the 3219 has 2.

In a stroke of luck, I found a parts auction this week that had the barrels to complete the set as well as a white car I was missing!

Nice, I had seen that come up, I wanted the logs! I’m missing so many looooooogs!! But glad you got some needed things. I must have something like 7 or 8 sets of those cars, sometimes the roof gets mashed. I hate having broken things in my sets…

And you could verify the 5 by that Motor City set that was sealed. It had 5 still on the sprue. I actually have 3 of them still on the sprue.

Well, I’ve been drastically reducing my stuff down. I sold my 3208-1, 3210, 3212, 3214, 3216, S3311, and have my 3213 and 3219 left. Sold a 3444. Sold like 12 carded trailers. Sold a few dup slots, and some loose accessories. It’s at a flea market so I’m not getting high dollar, but I’m just glad to get people interested in it.

I’m more interested in the catalog sets so I’m dumping all the retail ones. Still waiting for a Wards Super Fire Alert to pop up on eBay. I have one of every retail accessory sealed but the 3444, I guess I could just build it out, but it’s not the same.
