If you have been lurking/buying US-1 on eBay for a while like me, you know that Montgomery Ward catalog sets are virtually non-existent.
In response to this, I home built my own SFA set.
When I first saw this set, it blew me away that they combined a Fire Alert! set with a Motor City set. This is the only known set I’ve seen that mashed up two other sets.
I’d love to actually find a legit one, with a Content Sheet, but as I said, for whatever reason these MW sets are just non-existent. MW offered a couple other unique sets, one being a Night Haulers with a boot shaped layout instead of the Figure-8, and a Long Haul set with a 3320 square-circle layout shape instead of the 5-curve shape of the retail set.
This is the catalog page. It’s funny to me that they have trailer accessories on the dump truck circuit.
My layout, everything was pulled from sealed boxes mostly.
I used a 52 and a 61 because the sealed 20 I have I just couldn’t bear to pop it. Those are hard to find.
Instead of the 01 from the catalog pic I used a 12 to be more inline with the actual Motor City set, and stayed with the 10 as the Fire Alert has. And that awesome Fire Engine. And also the gravel and car carrier trailers. I may just switch out the yellow 3925 for the grey 3926.
As a side note, the Fire Alert and this SFA were the only sets to have three trucks.
This is truly a very unique set, as I’m going through and listing the items. It has the blue Goodyear dump bin, and I have about 40 tires for it, and the 36 from the Motor City set, which I have the correct barrels with 3 being still on the sprue. I just wish I had the Pennzoil labels for them. I am super stoked I was able to make this, and I hope you enjoyed seeing it.
