The Peterbilt truck cabs first appeared in the 1979 Tyco Catalog. It was item 6925 and 6926. These trucks are based off a late ‘70’s Peterbilt 359 Conventional. These encompass the 3903 type trucks, the Wrecker, and the Dump Trucks.
The Firebird also released in ‘79, it is based off a 1978 Firebird Trans-Am.
The pick up body first appeared in 1978 as items 6929 and 6946. This is based off a 1977/1978 Chevy 1/2 ton step-side. This would encompass the Smiths Tire, and Stomper pick up trucks.
The cop car and taxi first appeared in 1977. They are 1972 Dodge Chargers and based off Richard Petty’s 1972 “43” NASCAR Charger stocker. This is why there is a “43” over the right headlight.
The ambulance and Fed-Ex van body also first appeared in 1977. It is based off a 1977 Dodge B200 Tradesman van.
The COE body was an original US-1 release in 1982 that saw subsequent releases for other Tyco slots after. It’s based off an ‘81 or ‘82 Kenworth K100 Cab Over Engine (COE) design.
The Fire Engine is a made for US-1 item, released in 1983. It is based off a 1983 Mack MC Pumper Truck.
The Blazer body first appeared in 1980. It is based off a 1980 Chevy K-5 Blazer.
The Jeep body first appeared in a set in 1980, set 6216. They became available separately in 1981. It’s based off a 1979 or 1980 Jeep CJ-7.
In regard to “first appearances”, I used the year the slot first appeared as “sold separately “, and in the case of the Jeep, I just happened to catch that set with the Jeep’s. Maybe some slots appeared in sets before they sold separately.
I only used the “first released” year to narrow down the approximate year the actual vehicle was made. In most cases, a vehicle remained unchanged for a model year or more, especially in the case of the Semis. The Pete 359 had a good 20-year production span with little to no outside changes.
