Pretty awesome! I wonder if it is a first gen ('81 painted track), second (Center-off early '82), or third (combined terminal track late '82). Or a '83-'85?

I got mine as an opened, but unused, second gen with a 3320 set unused w/o box for ~$350. That price is steep!

Would you open it, or not? I'd probably sit on it for a while, then .. ugh, I don't know.. I'd be curious to know which version, but the price and future possible resale puts me on the fence.

Glad I got mine unused but opened. LOL..

At the end of the day, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. It's not like they come up for sale very often. The price of new cars are steep too. Personally I just bought two of the #3727 Rail tracks and integrated my own Railroad into the layout. This box artwork is definitely not as impressive at the Highway Wrecker set, Fire Alert, Night Haulers, Motor City, Stomper High Adventure, GI Joe etc. It doesn't even look like it belongs in the same product line and looks like they didn't even try.

The prices of many vintage toys from 1980s will continue to rise and then one day decline after the generation starts to die. This is happening with some 1950s cars now, except widely popular ones like Corvettes etc.

@lucianogirasole is a big collector in Italy and buys many of the rare sets

PS sold my Highway Wrecker set for 2100.00! Prices are climbing! I haven't seen another one for sale since that one, unless I missed it.

I remember the seller back in '04 when I was buying my first collection, and bidding against him.

This set actually does fall under the train section of the J.C. Penney catalog.

I've only seen maybe half a dozen of these posted since 2015 on eBay. That nice first Gen sold a few months back.

Honestly, this may actually be the only sealed set in existence. They were $72 I think, adjusted for inflation, that would be around $260. They were the most expensive of all the sets, and the only set sold every year, but they rarely come up. Possibly they sold very poorly, returned to Tyco and scrapped. It's odd so few pop up.

I remember when your set sold, you had the most expensive item sold for a while.

There is also an 88-piece sealed lot offered for $15,000. That averages to $170 per piece. I'm surprised our Italian friend hasn't snatched that up.

I've been watching eBay and it's kinda concerning me that so few items are posting now. As of yesterday there were 468 active items. It seems as many as 50 are those 1-lane home made parts. Seems to pages at 25 items a page on my search.

What do you think Mike, are we in the final stages of this stuff? I've been collecting since 2017. I haven't seen this few items since I started then. All I see are mad 3210 sets, although a slew of sealed sets posted up and sold around the time this set sold.

I basically burned out on it myself. I haven't even looked at it in months now.
