Does anyone have any info about this set? Bought it when I was a kid for $40.
Thanks.
It was a Sears special catalog set offered in 1984. It has a catalog number of 49 N 95459C. It retailed for $59.99. It used a S3344Q set number to align with Tyco’s retail sets. It is a special version of the 3228 Cross Country set. It uses a figure-8 layout instead of the 3228’s long boot layout.
Track parts are 3001 7.9VDC Power Pack, (1) 3011 6”, (4) 3012 9”, (2) 3013 15”, (6) 3014 9”R 1/4’s, (3) 3016 Turn-Outs, 3025 Terminal Track, (1) 3032 Double Turn-Out w/ Bin, (1) 3034 Squeeze Track, (7) 3024 Updated Highway Signs, (3) 3768 Highway Lights, (2) 7849, (2) 7850, (1) 7851 Piers.
It contains a 3414 (3470) Boulder Dozer, 3416 Pine Hill, 3455 Auto Loader, 3456 Fire Station, 3465 Auto Unloader, and a 3467 Danger Track.
Trucks and trailers are the lighted 3903, 3911, and the B/Y dump truck, with a 3946 Auto Transport.
The Set Contents sheet is 95-8-108, 91-8-381 Rebate Form (1984), 95-8-107 Mail Order Form (1984), 95-8-094 Assembly Sheet (1984), 95-8-093 Catalog Page (1984). It uses a 95-6-030 label for the box.
Accessories instructions 95-8-100 for the 3414, 95-8-101 for the 3416, 95-8-074 for the 3455, 95-8-075 for the 3456, 95-8-076 for the 3465, 95-8-104 for the 3467.
The set is pretty rare. I’ve seen three on
eBay in the last 2 years. A lot of the info I gave is on the content sheet. It mirrors the 3219 Night Haulers set almost to a “T”. Tyco just threw in a 3456, additional 9” track, another 3768, and a 3024. Granted the 3228 is way different in retail form, but for the 3228 and 3219 to be released in the same years (1983/1984) there was no real difference other than the 3456. But the 3228 is the only set to use 8 9”R 1/4 curves.
