Hi there, I built a new layout over the summer that required a 3" straight track piece, which Tyco unfortunately never made. So I had to make my own.
I wanted to share a few pictures of the process I used to make this custom track piece.
First, I modeled a 3D-printed cutting guide that allowed me to cut both ends of a 15" straight track exactly where needed, using a razor saw.
then I glued the 2 halves together with Tamiya plastic glue.
Finally, I glued a simple 3D printed plate to the underside of the track piece
Voilà. The result is quite satisfactory. And it allowed me to build a nice custom layout that will be the subject of another post.
